Saturday was spent at Nana’s with mom, cousin and myself, baking our traditional Struffoli balls and Italian bow cookies for the holidays. Three generations hard at work.
Nana makes around 20 plates for family, friends, neighbors, people who smile, people who need a smile and anyone else she passes by while holding a basket.
She makes the dough the night before and the next day is spent, cutting, bowing, knotting, balling and frying. This week she’ll finish them up by dipping the balls in boiling honey and adding some rainbow sprinkles. The bows just get a sprinkle of powdered sugar.
We will be eating these, without guilt or self awareness, for the next 4 weeks.
